He comes to us direct from England where he spent the last 5 years as a Sports Therapist, providing a wide range of treatments for sports injuries, including mobilisations, massage, rehabilitation and sports specific exercises. He performed diagnosis and assessment of injuries from a clinic base, and on-going patient care recovery during and after treatments.
In 2010, he represented England as one of two Therapists for the Masters (over 35s and 45s) Indoor Cricket team at the World Cup in Australia, and in 2011 he was head therapist for the Men’s, Women’s, Under 19 Boys and Girls World Cup English teams in South Africa.

We wish everybody a safe, peaceful and enjoyable Christmas holiday.

IC Sports Therapies are pleased to announce another first! We have an innovative new HUMAC balance assessment and treatment tool, and it is available to all our clients. This system is the first such unit in a private practice* on Sydney’s North Shore, whereas these units are usually found only in University settings.
Balance Assessment
The new Balance System represents a breakthrough in computerised Balance Measurement and Training Systems. By coupling the Balance Software with the most popular balance board in the gaming industry, we are able to offer cutting-edge diagnostics and treatments for Athletes, Trainers, Physical Therapists, Exercise Scientists, Physiotherapists, Podiatrists, Doctors, etc.
The Balance plate looks like a typical gaming board, but this one provides clinical grade accuracy. The Balance System is a static force plate combined with a Tilt system, allowing both static force and dynamic tilt measurements. These parameters are used in a variety of protocols to access and improve the capabilities of balance, orthopaedic and neurologic patients. In many cases the same display is used for all three types of patients, for both testing and exercise, on both stable and unstable surfaces. In addition, real-time biofeedback helps users better perform the exercises they are already doing, while making the exercises more engaging.
HUMAC Measurement and Training Routines
The HUMAC Balance System includes, amongst others, the following Measurement and Training Routines:
Clinical Test of Sensory Input Balance (CTSIB). This tests how a patient’s vision, vestibular and somatosensory systems interact, and if a deficit exists compared to a normal population. The patient is tested on both firm and unstable surfaces, with eyes open and closed.
Centre of Pressure – tracks a Patients’ COP while performing exercises with eyes open or closed. This shows variations in a patient’s Left/Right, Front/Back weight distribution while being tested.
Weight Shift – measures a patient’s ability to shift their weight back and forth, while hitting targets and keeping within a target zone.
Limits of Stability – this testing mode has targets for a patient to move a cursor to, and then hold on target for a selectable time, before moving to the next target.
Roadway – reports a patient’s ability to accurately weight shift, while keeping within the boundaries of a “roadway”.
Weight Bearing – displays how weight is distributed right to left or front to back.
Tests can be performed anonymously, but individualised patient profiles can also be set up on the computer to track progress and results. This means we can test a patient, treat them, reassess them a few weeks later, and provide before-and-after comparison reports.
The Balance System retains all of the raw data collected from a test. Results can be reported using a standard Test, Progress, or Group Summary format, for reference by the patient themselves, or a referring doctor, physiotherapist or sports trainer.
Fun
The Balance System includes Down Hill Skier, Flight, Tilt Board, Breakout, and Pong games so Physical Therapy is always fun and exciting.

IC Sports Therapies
01/08/2016
I have been doing a Mums and Bubs Pilates class with Colin and it is great! We have fun and exercise at the same time, something I would never have believed possible until I started this class. My almost 3 year old plays happily while my almost 1 year old stays in the class with me. Colin has magic baby skills and can often be seen holding my little girl after lulling her to sleep while instructing us mums. He tailors the classes perfectly depending on the mood of the small people and his happy and relaxed approach makes it a stress-free time for everyone. I would highly recommend this class for anyone who wants a full body work out or for anyone who has a small child and hasn’t found a class that suits their nap times 🙂
Colin left IC Sports Therapies at the end of September 2018, so his Pilates and Personal Training services are no longer available.

About Miriam
Miriam is a counsellor and psychotherapist with a deep fascination for effective and brave communications with Self and others that result in empowering and positive relationships and meaningful sustainable change.
Her entire tertiary education has focused on communication starting with studying languages, then studying the written word through editing and publishing; and, most recently learning about our psychological and internal worlds in counselling and psychotherapy. More specifically she is influenced by Existential philosophy which focuses on the ideas of choice, responsibility, and living an authentic life.
Also, living and working abroad has allowed her to learn about other cultures; and while feeling like the odd one out she managed to build a successful life for herself and her family. Being resilient was very much a part of this experience. This learning has also enabled her to listen to others on many different levels and come to understand how we come to be where we are … but also explore where we would like to be.
Aside from her private practice she is the Campus Counsellor at the Jansen Newman Institute for Counselling and Applied Psychotherapy, as well as being the Counsellor for a college of natural therapies and a college of beauty therapy. She has worked as a telephone counsellor and Relationships Educator with Relationships Australia covering topics such as anger, domestic violence, parenting, and managing after separation. She also works within the corporate world coaching leadership and executive development.

Miriam has been involved in counselling since 2000 (both here and in the USA) and has achieved the following qualifications:

Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy
Graduate Diploma in Editing and Publishing
Bachelor of Arts (Hons Italian)

Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

Miriam continues to study and learn to deepen her knowledge and skill base, and also attends frequent supervision to improve and assist in her own reflective practice.
Miriam is a Clinical Member of CAPA (NSW) (Membership No. 39603), a member of PACFA Reg. Provisional 22140, as well as a member of the Institute of Group Leaders and the Jung Society.
